National exercise to fight oil spills begins

Manama, Dec. 10 (BNA): The national exercise, 'Kingdom's Forearms 2', to fight oil spills was launched today, and will continue until December 12.
Organised by the National Disaster Management Committee in partnership with the Supreme Council for Environment, the event is part of the directives of the Civil Defence Council led by the Interior Minister.
The drill's scenario is an oil leak from a pipe at the harbour of the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco). It aims to evaluate the readiness of the concerned Interior Ministry's directorates and emergency services organisations in tackling the issue, along with the promotion of health and safety measures.
The exercise is a continuation of the previous one that focused on oil pollution and evaluating capabilities in protecting coastlines.
