Transportation Ministry wins World Summit on the Information Society Forum award

Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed participated in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2022.
Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, won the World Summit on the Information Society 2021 (WSIS) award held under the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union.
The ministry participated with the electronic ‘Nawras” system for issuing aircraft permits, the winning project in the electronic environment category.
The ministry’s participation came within its strategy that reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in moving towards the digital economy and in implementation of the economic vision led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
“We are proud of this global achievement, which adds to the records of Bahrain in the field of communications and information technology and confirms its leading position in this field,” the minister said.
“The Nawras system’s winning of the World Summit on the Information Society Award in the category of electronic environment for the system’s link and excellence in supporting the implementation of the summit’s outputs, especially the Summit’s work lines supports the achievement of the sustainable development goals, as the system transformed the work environment for flight permits and scheduling into a fully electronic environment.”
The Information and e-Government Authority was honored for the Digital Policies Project and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development for the Digital Employment project for reaching the final stages within the distinguished projects of the year 2022.
