Plan to build 19,000 housing units in ten years launched

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Shaikh Khalid bin Abudlla Al Khalifa, has announced the commencement of the implementation of the Housing and Urban Planning Ministry’s plan to build 19,000 housing units in a period of 10 years, according to the bidding system, with an investment size of one billion Bahraini Dinars.

The deputy premier asserted that the plan supports the goals of the comprehensive development process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and followed up on by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, noting that it is in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He indicated that the plan is within the Government Lands’ Development Programme, which is among the pioneering schemes launched by the government, as part of its vision to expand its partnership to provide housing units for beneficiaries of housing services delivered by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning through the “Tasheel” and “Mazaya” programmes.

He pointed out that the launch of the projects associated with the Government Lands’ Development Programme follows the success of its a pilot phase during which 132 units had been built at the Lawzi region, noting that those units will be delivered to the beneficiaries during the first quarter of next year.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure made the statements while visiting today the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to be updated about the progress of the Government Lands’ Development Programme and the new housing financing schemes programme, as well as to meet the Ministry’s partners, including bank officials, real estate development companies, and real estate brokers.

Upon arrival, the Deputy Prime Minister was welcomed by Housing and Urban Development Minister, Amna bint Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, and a number of officials.

During the visit, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla stressed that the positive outcomes of the partnership initiatives with the private sector, and their contribution, over the past years, to providing thousands of services to citizens, have paved the way for expanding financing solutions while diversifying and increasing the options of housing units available to citizens through projects that are being implemented in partnership with the private sector.

In this regard, he praised the real estate development companies’ readiness to participate in the Ministry’s efforts to provide housing units for citizens, at a value that matches the housing financing options.

The Deputy Prime Minister then honoured the heads and representatives of banks and real estate companies which participated in the Housing Finance Exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning at the City Center Bahrain earlier this month, praising their keenness to take part in the event, which reflected positively on the turnout of citizens and their interaction with the real estate portfolios that it included.

He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning and all employees for their sincere efforts that embody their commitment to working as one team in accordance with the vision of Team Bahrain, citing their contributions to finding fast housing solutions and innovative financing options whose impact is felt by Bahraini citizens.

He also paid tribute too former Housing Minister, Bassim bin Yacub Al-Hamar, for his commendable patriotic efforts to enhance government services in the field of social housing.

Minister of Housing and Urban Planning extended deepest thanks and gratitude to HM the King and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister to Ministry for their unlimited support for the Ministry.

She also expressed thanks and appreciation to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure for his visit, which, she, said has encouraged the Ministry’s employees and partners.

She also appreciated his approval of the launch of the implementation plan of 19,000 housing units in housing towns and other designated sites in various governorates, through the Government Lands’ Development Programme in partnership with the private sector, which represents a quantum leap in terms of the speed of providing housing units for the beneficiaries of financing services.

Minister Amna Al-Rumaihi revealed that the 19,000-unit plan will provide 6,168 housing units and flats in Salman City, 3,331 units in Khalifa Town, and 3,000 units in the second phase of the Al Ramli Suburb Housing Project, in addition to the construction of 6,750 units in the locations of the residential buildings strip in different locations across various governorates.

The first package, which will be offered within the Government Lands’ Development Programme projects, includes the building of 131 housing units and 360 flats in Salman City, in addition to 280 housing units in Khalifa Town.
